OCEAN FOG
Bells chiming
chains clanking
wood groaning
the tide lapping in
and out
rushing and receding
swish swish!
Bringing ocean gifts
stealing land
creatures
like a thief in the
night
a watery hand
grabbing
pulling under and out
to sea.
Voices carrying
loud, soft, then gone
completely
only to return with
strange laughter
just for a moment
or desperate calls,
ahoy!
Or the eerie song of
a loon
no one around for
miles
I was mistaken
only me
and the ocean
just a trick of sound
and sight
of bells and chains and
wood
of thick grey mist
and water pulling
stealing again.
