EIGHT LESSONS
old tractor wheel
no longer used or
needed
motionless
but still relevant
a symbol, an icon, a
secret code
the eight sections of
the wheel
the eight sections of
the year
it keeps spinning
spring, summer, fall,
winter
and the four times in
between
nature spins it
perfectly
so well versed is she
man would do well to
study her
the seed is planted
in the fall
at the cross-quarter
day, it goes to sleep
in the winter, it
dies
at the cross-quarter
day, it enters the spirit world
in the spring, it is born--something
from nothing
at the cross-quarter
day, it quickens
then on to summer and
massive growth
at the cross-quarter,
the first harvest
and then to return to
the seed
thus it goes, around
and around
like a spinning wheel,
the eight lessons
hiding the key in
plain sight
