February 7, 2015 - An Old Gull

An old gull sits at the very top of an even older crumbling chimney that saw its better days decades ago.  The two seem very suited to this environment along the ocean on a very cold and completely gray day.  The chimney doesn’t funnel smoke out of the abandoned building anymore.  It has a new job now as a high perch for a hungry bird, and together the two watch over and patrol the ocean.

The man who built the chimney did not make it for the gull, but he is no longer here and the gull is.  His claim to the property has long since vanished.  The chimney doesn’t care; it is only glad that it is still useful.  All manmade things eventually become the property of the animals and the Earth.  All it takes is a bit of time, and that is the single thing the animals and the Earth have which man does not.
